Christmas will be here before we know it and if you are like me, you are probably running round like a crazy person now trying to get everything done! There are times especially after a Christmas party, where you might need a pick me up and my Strawberry, Blueberry & Apple Smoothie is perfect for that! My smoothie is made in the Kenwood 2 Go Sport Smoothie Maker which I was sent in the summer to review and test. The 2 Go Sport is a nutritional blender without the usual price tag (most of them are around the £100 mark) and is an ideal Christmas for anyone looking to get a bit healthier in the New Year (like me!)
The Kenwood 2 Go Sport has a 300 watt motor with two speeds and a pulse option. It has can crush ice and will deal with most types of fruit with ease. The 2 Go Sport comes with two 600ml sports bottles that you can blend it and then takeaway with you using the included sports caps. As you fill the sports bottles up with fruit and so on while they are upright and then screw the blending blade (not pictured) on the top and then tip it upside down to go on the base unit before blending, you may find that you need to give the unit a good shake to bring all the fruit to the bottom, near the blade otherwise it can get stuck at the top and not get blended properly. The sports bottles are well sized and ideal to take with you on your adventures or for an after exercise pick me up. The sports bottles, lids and blending blade are all dishwasher safe. The 2 Go Sport is very compact making it perfect for even the smallest of kitchens. It is great for protein shakes, batters and soups like my chilled pea, spinach and Parma ham soup.
I will let you into a little secret, I never used to like smoothies as I thought, that they had to have banana in to make them thick and give them the right texture. However, I have recently discovered that this is not the case. My smoothie recipe below uses natural yogurt to thicken it and I really think that the neutral flavour of the yogurt really lets the flavour and sweetness of the fruit shine through.
- 150g strawberries, stalks removed, washed and chopped into chunks
- 150g blueberries, washed
- 1 apple, core removed and chopped into chunks
- 50-100g low fat natural yogurt (depending on the consistency of smoothie that you want)
- In a Kenwood 2 Go Sport (or other nutritional blender), add in all the fruit and yogurt.
- Screw the blade on top then place in the base unit and blend for 30 seconds to a minute to make sure everything is blended well together
- Serve immediately or screw the lid on top of the sports bottle and take with you to enjoy later
You can buy the Kenwood 2 Go Sport for £29.50 from Amazon!
